i think i made mistake in my profile for our CD-ROM yearbook.
though i will always be remembered as "the mischief master"...i think i will also be remembered as "the girl who always had a camera". :)
my affinity (and love) for taking pictures started when i learned how to use one. my parents started with the old-school canon SLR that immortalized many of my childhood memories. when the compact, auto-focus point-and-shoot ones came in, mom kept a steady supply of 36-shot kodak films that continued to keep details of graduations, baptisms, birthdays, births (of my bros), field days, outings...and yes, even sleeping.
i was first entrusted with the camera back in grade three during our section's one-day retreat. when the pictures were developed, not one contained an image of myself, which ensued a 2-hour sermon on how to use the camera properly...which basically meant that pictures should include me. :) but i didn't care. all i know was that i found joy in seeing people smile for me. at such an early age, i had found true love. picture-taking. :)
the high cost of films and developing took a toll in my pocket, but it didn't stop me from sneaking off with the family cam to school fairs, class encounters, club activities, field trips, what have you. and so, when the genuises of innovation came up with the digicam, i rejoiced with the rest of the world.
so why do i just luuuuuuuv taking pictures? its really very simple. my memory will one day fail me, but pictures will always remind me of experiences, people, and places. photos take me back to those times when i played jose abad santos jr., when i had to dance the waltz with a colorful rubber ball, when had very short hair, when i was in love, my birthdays, the proms, debut parties, inuman parties, trips, foolishness...everything that i went through. it will remind me of the people i love and loved. it will document my life as as a student. it will make me see how much i've changed (well...at least physically). it will remind me of all the times i've spent with friends and family. it will remind me of the triumphs...as well as the failures.
pictures are therapeutic. looking at the photos ive taken takes me out of a bad mood. it calms my nerves. it even inspires me to write. it gets in touch with my sentimental side that i can't help but bring back the events of the past. it stirs emotions that i had felt. it takes me back to the times of my life.
i realize now that my hobby is self-serving. but id like to think that people share my joy when they see themselves in that moment of camera-clicks. id like to believe that it also makes them see how happy we were, and somehow, makes them happy too. id like to convince myself that though this is so selfish of me, im still able to give them a smile. mababaw lang ang kaligayahan ko. ngumiti ka lang, ayos na.
one day, i will learn the techicalities of that joyful little thing and i will be able to capture more moments. i will see more smiles. and i will have more smiles of my own.
some people get annoyed when their pictures are taken. some get more annoyed when they are asked to take the picture (hehe). some are pissed off with people who always carry cameras, and others resent the noise of excited cam-whoring. while i, the true-blue camera-phile, only gets annoyed when i run out of memory card space.
...or when multiply says that i have reached my quota. :)
i take pictures of the ones close to my heart. to all of you who's part of my archive of pics, receive my sincerest Thank You. you've just made a mark in my life. it was an honor to take that precious moment of you smiling with me. :)

who would've thought that talking about picture-taking will make me this dramatic? :)
