Year I Section 3 1998-1999's English entry to the Asian Festival. We were chosen to do a repeat! Haha! This is not the main story of our beloved Merdeka, just one of the sub-plots (closest to my heart). I don't think I can do justice to the story-telling of the whole thing. ;-)

The poem (written anonymously, until now we don't know who the author is) that earned a lot of cheers from the crowd ---
I have long kept this inside me a feeling far too great an emotion hidden behind a mask that could put our friendship at stake
It took quite a while before I realized that what I felt was true the care and love you've given me the love I felt for you
And now I must admit the fact I must confess it's true that finally I've realized I've fallen in love with you. [Miguel Sison, 1998]
Miguel Sison is a young Filipino journalist thrown into the trouble that was East Timor. Unfortunately for him, he was hostaged by the guerilla and was put into a camp. Some of his fellow hostages were: a father who witnessed the death of his own family, children from an unidentified family, and a mother who was looking for the son that she lost many years ago.
Despite the cruelty of war, Miguel managed to give hope to the young, fiery, yet vulnerable Keya. She is a Military General's daughter who was also hostaged by the insurgents and is in the same camp as Miguel. What began as a hate-hate relationship turned to a sweet love story between the calm, reserved man and the passionate lady.
One night, during a heated argument between the hostages and the guerilla, a small anarchy arose. Gunshots were fired. In one quick moment, Miguel caught the bullet meant for Keya -- with his own body.
Such is the story of young love that surpassed hopelessness, tragedy, and death.
