the inner geek in me loves a good documentary. so what better way to spend my last night at the hotel but to watch one on local Canada TV -- featuring porn actors/actresses. :) nyehehehe.
my psyche wasn't bothred at the very least. it was interesting to see the other side of the fence (ows?). i also wanted to find out why these films lack plots; or why some make the effort to go all-out on location and costumes. haha, sige a.R gumawa ka pa ng excuses!
if i was watching this with anyone i'd usually go into a discussion on exploitation, human rights, and maybe philo, but then again, i'm alone and i'm not in the mood for that (at least for now). besides, how can i make valid arguments at 1.30AM in the bloody morning? the coffee that i chugged 3 hours ago is now leaving my system.
anyhoo, because i was in geek mode (haha tigilan na ang pagpapanggap!), i did a comparison of my career with theirs, and came up with the following similarities:
:: we are stressed; :: we have delivery managers (who in turn, reports to higher managers); :: we work on a schedule (they don't have flex time though, hehe :p and they do have work from home!); :: we follow and participate in a "project" methodology -- from planning to actual execution; :: we have incentives for a job well done; :: we work with a team that changes with every "project". which basically means that we have to learn to get along with everybody. walang personalan, trabaho lang; :: we get into discussions between our jobs with our families and peers on the same things -- time, amount of work that we do, compensation (haha), and working conditions; :: we do research! and we are expected to deliver improvements, solutions, and to constantly learn how to make ourselves experts in our fields; :: we have team building (yes they do -- a lot similar to our offsites, hehe!); :: we travel. interestingly, when one's really really good, they get "requested" to take part in films overseas. apparently, their managers can be part of a global porn network; and :: at the end of the day, it's just a job that pays the bills.
o diba, from silicone boobs to silicon valley talaga. hahaha! never thought that working on IT is very similar to being a porn star! maybe it's time to change careers?
